Canberra Liberals call for feasibility study of West Tuggeranong

Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee is calling on the ACT Labor-Greens Government to thoroughly investigate the suitability of West Tuggeranong for future housing options.

Ms Lee said the fact that the Labor-Greens Government has refused to properly assess the area shows they are not interested in addressing the housing crisis the ACT is currently facing.

“Canberrans are paying the highest rents in the country by some margin with the median house price now over $1 million,” Ms Lee said.

“Labor and the Greens have no plan to make housing more affordable for Canberrans and continue to make excuses instead of providing more land for detached housing in the ACT.

“This Labor-Greens Government is so wedded to an ideological 70 per cent infill agenda, they are deliberately restricting release of land in the ACT.”

Ms Lee said it is a given that any future land released for housing in the ACT takes into consideration long term environmental impacts.

“Doing a proper feasibility study will highlight areas of West Tuggeranong that need to be protected along with potential sites for housing that Canberrans are crying out for,” said Ms Lee.

“This is an opportunity to potentially release much needed land close to existing local services and employment hubs, as well as public transport.

“The Canberra Liberals believe in giving all Canberrans choice when it comes to housing options in the ACT. Under this Labor-Greens Government, medium density and detached housing is not a genuine option for so many,” Ms Lee concluded.
